When it comes to restaurants, the range is great. Here you will find French, Spanish and Italian cuisine, although local specialties are also a must. The local Romanian food is of the greasier kind. Tochitura, fried meat in strong pepper sauce with beef or pork (a kind of polenta) and fried egg on top, is a common dish. Like sarmale – Romanian cabbage rolls (wine leaves or cabbage leaves filled with meat and rice).
Curious about the nightlife? Bucharest’s bars are scattered all around the city and finding the best places is part of the charm. Just like the bars, Bucharest’s most exclusive clubs are hard to find. But there are still plenty of other cool night spots, and no matter how you want to entertain yourself in Bucharest, you will find something that is just for you!
Flight and transportation
Bucharest has two airports: Henri Coandă International Airport and Bucharest Băneasa Airport. Henri Coandă International Airport is approximately 17 kilometres from the city and the journey takes about 40 minutes. Traisn connects the airport with Bucharest North Train Station. You can also take the number 780 express bus. Bus 783 connects the airport with the city and it runs all day, every 40 minutes in the evenings. You will find buses at the departure and arrival terminals. Taxis can be ordered through a touch screen in the Arrivals Hall.
You can either walk, ride a bike, go by bus, tram, cable bus or subway when you are getting around Bucharest. You can travel by public transport between 05.00 and 23.59. Tickets can be used on all types of transport except the express buses. The most economical is to buy a discounted travel card that is sold in various kiosks throughout Bucharest. In addition to traveling by public transportaion, it is excellent to walk around the town.
Cheap and safe
Romania is one of Europe’s cheapest countries to have a vacation in. The price level is roughly 50% lower than in Sweden.
Romania is considered a fairly safe destination by the Swedish State Department.But of course, normal vigilance is required, especially in public places and tourist attractions. Romania is a member in the EU, but not part of the Schengen Agreement. You must therefore bring your passport when you go there.
